Kicked off 2026 with a new publication in Advanced Functional Materials. Title: Coherent Control of Nitrogen Spins via the VB center in Hexagonal Boron Nitride.

Early-stage researchers from Eötvös Loránd University visited Linköping University as part of the QUEST project, hosted by the theoretical physics group led by Igor Abrikosov. 🌍

✨ “The future doesn’t just happen, we shape it.” ✨

Last weekend, Anett Simon-Zsók from the Semiconductor Quantum Technology Research Group joined the MindFormers Festival in Sepsiszentgyörgy, Transylvania — an event built on dialogue, new perspectives, and shared inspiration.

✨ The Summer School on New Directions in Quantum and Quantum Reservoir Computing, Quantum Devices and Related Technologies took place at Aalto University from 18–22 August 2025.
Young researchers gained insights into cutting-edge quantum topics, joined lab tours at Micronova, and connected through poster sessions and discussions.

We welcomed Emmanuel Rousseau (Laboratoire Charles Coulomb, University of Montpellier) to ELTE for a week of scientific exchange. Highlights included engaging discussions on quantum science, a visit to András Halbritter’s lab at BME, and exploring new ideas for collaboration. 🤝

🎓 Emese Moravcsik, a high school student, joined the ELTE team through the ELTE TTK Talentum Program.
She simulated the dynamics of Rydberg atoms on the Aquila Quantum Processor, and gave a short presentation about her work in Hungarian. 👏

✨ Diamond quantum reservoir in action!
A nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond interacting with 6 nuclear spins forms a quantum reservoir — capable of analyzing chaotic time series.

☕️ Budapest researchers working on point-defect-based quantum technologies met at NV Café, a half-day workshop organized by Andras Palyi, Gyozo Egri, Péter Boross, and QUEST Project Coordinator Viktor Ivády.

💠ELTE Researchers at the 2025 Boron Nitride Workshop💠
Researchers from Eötvös Loránd University participated in the Boron Nitride Workshop 2025 in Nashville, joining the international community to discuss the latest developments in boron nitride research.

📢 QUEST Project Coordinator Viktor Ivády’s latest paper, „Carbon-contaminated topological defects in hexagonal boron nitride for quantum photonics,” was recently published in npj 2D Materials and Applications! 🎉

Five members of our group— Adalbert István Tibiássy, Anett Simon-Zsók, András Tárkányi, Dominik Márk Lévai and Roland Weiszmüller —presented their research at OTDK! 🎓👏

👨‍🔬👩‍🔬 PhD students, postdocs & senior researchers from Eötvös Loránd University recently visited Loughborough University Physics Department as part of the QUEST Twinning project. The team explored labs including the Emergent Photonics Research Centre, diving into micro-comb lasers & neuromorphic photonics! 💡🔬

Zsolt Benedek from Eötvös Loránd University visited Linköping University to collaborate with the Theoretical Quantum Defect Group (Oscar Bulancea Lindvall and Igor Abrikosov) and discuss his work on modelling quantum state transition rates.

The QRC-4-ESP & QUEST Meeting took place at ELTE in Budapest, bringing together early-stage and experienced researchers for an inspiring exchange of ideas ✨
